MERGE is developed with the aim of addressing three critical shortcomings in the current education system at the undergraduate/graduate level.
Samaj Parivartan Shakti Sangathan (SPSS) is a non-partisan people’s movement of over 10000 members working towards the development of Muzaffarpur district in Bihar.
Initiated as a struggle against corruption in the NREGS in August 2011 in Ratnauli Panchayat, they work on spreading awareness among the poor regarding their rights and various government programs that have been initiated for their sake and thus attempt to bridge the gap between policy formation and its implementation.
Their main areas of work are the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS), The Public Distribution System (PDS) and awareness campaigns to make those eligible for the pension schemes avail the benefits of the same.

The internship/mentorship is about research on and implementation of key social sector schemes. Mentees will do field-work and facilitate implementation in rural Bihar on unemployment benefits for mazdoors under the MGNREGS as well as ration cards for BPL (Below Poverty Line) households.
These are two of the most crucial problems pertaining to rural entitlements and offer a unique chance to work with the founder of SPSS, the remarkable Sanjay Sani.
