50
Aim
Paraspar’s Summer Exploration 2017 in collaboration with Safai Karamchari Andolan and School For Democracy aims to bring a group of 50 interns together to dig deeper into the issue of manual scavenging, not just to understand how it is still prevalent in some parts of the country but to also examine the manifestation of caste in these areas and to comprehend the role of governmental bodies in curbing this problem.
About
Paraspar is a youth collective based in Delhi. Conceived by a group of youngsters who believe in learning through observation, experience and introspection, it provides a platform to students to explore and engage with different realities of society.
Safai Karamchari Andolan (SKA) is a national movement committed to the total eradication of manual scavenging and the rehabilitation of all scavengers for dignified occupation. It also works with sewage workers, pit workers and sweepers for their rights and attempts to bring focus to the caste inequalities that exist in the society.
Loktantrashala or School for Democracy (SFD) is an attempt to transfer the concept of an equal and just India, to practice. Through several workshops, training sessions, lectures and public assemblies it has been creating awareness about the issues of justice, equality and promoting greater participation of people in governance.
Location
All three of these organisations are coming together for Summer Exploration, 2017. We are aiming to bring in 50 interns on board who will then be placed in various districts of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
The interns will identify the people involved in manual scavenging in their allotted districts, interact with families and communities involved in the same.
They will also tap the local authorities and government officials, organise community meetings and spread awareness about the issue.
Residential Workshop
There will be a residential workshop on 1st and 2nd June, 2017 in Delhi before the commencement of the internship, which is mandatory for every intern.
Internship starts around June 5.
This internship requires you to stay for a minimum period of four weeks uninterruptedly in your allotted district in Madhya Pradesh/Uttar Pradesh.
Also, the interns have to bear the expenses for their travel and food.
