Wildlife Conservation Society-India is an organization that works towards conservation backed by science. We engage with governments and partner with several other NGOs to achieve the best results.

Wildlife Conservation Society-India has initiated a project called Counter Wildlife Trafficking, which seeks to build capacity amongst law enforcement agencies and the judiciary to combat wildlife trafficking in India.

The project aims to improve India’s detection and enforcement agencies’ capacity to investigate, arrest, prosecute, convict and sentence criminal organizations that perpetrate wildlife trafficking.

To this end, WCS-India will conduct capacity building workshops for various stakeholders involved in investigation, enforcement and prosecution including the Forest Department, Police, Customs officials, public prosecutors, judiciary etc.

Job description

Legal Trainer

The primary responsibilities of the legal trainer are:

  1. This is a part-time position involving travel to North-East and South India as and when workshops are scheduled with the Forest Department and Customs officers.
  2. Conduct workshops for Forest Departments and Customs Officers on the Wild Life Act, 1972 and the Customs Act, 1962 in the North-Eastern states and South India.
  3. Teaching style must be simple, interactive and with no legal jargon, breaking the law down into a protocol to be followed by frontline staff.
  4. Knowledge of Assamese/Nagamese/Telugu is preferable.

BA/BBA, LLB

Interest and passion for wildlife conservation is a must. Preferred if the candidate has prior experience in a teaching position.
