Name of the intern: Nikita Agarwal, National Law University Delhi, Vth Year
Name of the organisation. City: Majlis. Mumbai
How big was the office? Team strength: The office was quite spacious but not very huge. The team is not large and can do with some more lawyers.
Application procedure: There is an online application form that needs to be filled in the majlis website: http://www.majlisbombay.org/
Duration/timings: 2 months; from 10 am to 8 pm
Accommodation: I lived in this PG in Bandra, which was really bad. It was however quite cheap according to Bombay standards and also had a tiny kitchen which helped cut down my food expense massively.
First impression: I was asked to read for the first week. I was introduced to everyone including Flavia Ma’am.
Main tasks: At Majlis, I was assigned to work under a senior lawyer, Adv. Nausheen Yousuf who basically heads the Domestic Violence wing.
The work assigned to me was massive, from tonnes of drafting, to having one-on-one interactions with clients, to going to courts, it was the entire package. I also got to work on a rape case.
Work environment, people: Amazing work ethic. The people are helpful, warm and accommodating They even got me food because I don’t live in Mumbai. My senior lawyer was the best teacher ever and Flavia Ma’am was literally amazing.
Best things: The amount of work I got to do was great. Majlis only takes students who are willing to work for a longer duration. This in turn gives the students to work more than just like interns.
Bad things: No stipend considering how expensive Bombay can be.
What did you do to chill: We always ate lunch together which turned into a huge conversation-which comfortably switched from important women rights issues to talking absolute nonsense.
Stipend: Nil
Anything else you’d like to tell: I loved it there and I suggest anyone who wants to work with women rights’ advocacy to go there. You will never be the same again.

Hi Sushila, yes they give PPOs. And they are always hiring young lawyers so you should definitely apply.
All the best. 🙂
