Name, Year, College
Amrit Bedi, 2nd year, RGNUL Punjab
Name of organization
Punjab State Human Rights Commission, Chandigarh
Duration
1 month
First day
The System Manager, Mr. Rohit Chathrath, under whom we interned, guided us through the whole ‘What-Why-Where-How’ on our first day.
We were given the Human Rights Act, 2003 to study with the prospect of having a test later. We were also told about the working of the commission.
A lot of field work was involved as well as we were asked to create project reports on any topic of our choice.
Main tasks
The second day onward we were divided into teams. Our main work was to decide whether the case, which people appealed to commission, fell under the obligatory powers given to it or not and if yes, then under which codes.
Good things
We did make a few friends there, and we were, not surprisingly, the youngest. Among the senior co-interns, apart from the upper year students, we even had post-grad people who were interning just for the exposure. All in all, it was a great experience for a first internship.
PSHRC is a great place for interning, be it for the first time or the tenth!
