High Court of Patna
Application Process
There was no such process. I went to the court and had a meeting with lawyer I was going to work with. He asked a few questions regarding the subjects I had learnt in the first year of college.
Duration of internship and timings
I interned for a month. One could intern at the High Court of Patna for 4 to 6 months. (max)
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
On the first day, I was introduced to all the staff. There was a certain code of conduct which I was told to follow. I had a uniform dress code. I was not given any files to study, since it was my first day.
I visited the court rooms and was amazed to observe the silence that prevailed there.
The High court of Patna truly is remarkable. It was made in 1916.
Main tasks
I was working under a criminal lawyer. My work was to study cases pertaining to regular and anticipatory bails. Apart from this, I also watched the proceedings the Public Interest Litigation. I used to listen to the proceedings of the cases. Also, I did some research on those cases.
My lawyer used to give me one file on a daily basis, and I was supposed to analyse them. Later, he used to ask questions based on those cases. It helped gain a lot; both in terms of knowledge and experience.
Work environment and people
The work environment was quite healthy. It was more like a typical “court” atmosphere. The staffs were very, very supportive. Also, they ere cooperative.
Best things
The experiences I gained are priceless.
To be honest, what I loved the most was learning while listening to the proceedings.
It helped me gain practical knowledge.
Bad things
There was nothing I did not like about working at the High Court of Patna.
Stipend
No Stipend.
Biggest Lessons
One should know the importance of time.
