Mine was normal 30 Days internship, including Sundays off and on Saturday’s we used to get half day.
Reporting time was 10:00 AM though you could come until 10:30, and the shift extended till mostly 4:00 PM or early.
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
On the first day was I was kind of of scared and nervous, but the staff members over there were quite chilled out and cool people. Vinay sir our Co-ordinator was a very warm person. On our first day I was introduced to the staff and briefed about the work they do over there.
I had to submit my College ID, two photographs and letter of recommendation from my College.
It is located in Kidwai Nagar, Kanpur. Main office consists 5 rooms wherein all the work is done. Office is a bit and could use renovation.
Main tasks
We were assigned tasks on weekly basis and had to submit our reports accordingly on the end of every week.
My main tasks majorly were-
Interviewing and counselling lost/run-away kids. Getting to know more about Juvenile Justice Act and Juvenile Justice Board.
As well we got know a lot more about 1098 Child Line, an initiative started by the Indian Government.
Awareness among people about Child Help Line Number (1098) and Child Labor.
Distributing pamphlets and catalogs about Child Labor, Child Line and Subhash Children Home.
Celebrating Subhash Jayanti (23rd Jan) and distributing flags and catalogs as well as making people aware about his sacrifices.
Visited Bal Sudhar Grah (Kanpur, Bithoor road) and met kinds there.
Work environment and people
Work environment was quite chilled out and relaxed. Even though when work load was excessive no one there ever seem to panic or loose temper. Humor and fun was always in the air.
People were really cool and amazingly talented in what they did. Patient too as handling kinds can be tough sometimes.
They were really affectionate and loving and I am not just saying for the sake of it, it showed on the our last day of internship. When a farewell party and a small ceremony was held for us on that day.
Best things
People, the staff was the best thing there and then there is kids whom we met in the Orphanage and Bal Sudhar Grah, meeting them made me realize that if they can be so happy and optimistic even after so many odds in there life’s, why can’t we?
Learned a lot about Juvenile Acts and legal aspects of Juvenile cases, work of police, Helpline and Juvenile Justice Board.
Samosa’s and evening tea’s were epic.
Bad things
Nothing as such.
Stipend
None
Biggest Lessons
There are going to difficulties in our life but that shouldn’t stop us from succeeding in what we want to do. This I learned from those Children I met in Bal Sudhar Grah.
Any Other Thing
Subhash Children Home = NGO+Internship+Loads of Fun+Life lessons+Meet awesome people = Awesome experience.
