Application Process
In the second semester we had to intern with a district court lawyer. Without taking risks like last time, I interned with the lawyer which the college appointed. I only had to send my resume to them.
No other process was involved.
Duration of internship and timings
Generally the court timings are 9:00 am to 3:00 pm but most of the lawyers stay late or leave before.
In summer internship, I interned for 2 and half months and we had to reach court by 8:45 am and had to work till 4 pm max.
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
Talking about the district court, we had to report at our lawyer’s chamber. I did not expect something huge; I had an impression that since its government area, we will have to work really hard without any luxury without ACs and all.
So was the case, District court were much hot, the fans are just a showpiece. Working, non-working were the same. So yes we were prepared. Our lawyer asked us our passion, dream and everything.
Main tasks
The lawyer made us visit every court room in the district court and asked us to make list of all the judges and their designation. Then we had to file complaints, draft memos, sometimes had to appear in court in place of our lawyer.
Work environment and people
In district court we had to come in full uniform (white shirt, black trousers, black tie and black court), sharp on time. We came across various kinds of people.
We met criminals and normal people too. We were strictly not allowed to use our Mobile phones in the court. The work environment was somewhat professional. It gave me a slight taste to be a lawyer.
Best things
Interacting with such amazing lawyers and judges, plus getting access to the court’s library is the best thing any law student could ask for.
Stipend
Being the first years, nobody is ready to give stipend. so even I din’t get a stipend
Biggest Lessons
I would like to enumerate the biggest lessons that I learnt.
1. Made me Disciplined
2. Became Punctual
3. Gave me exposure
4. Enhanced my communication skills
5. Made me experienced
