Application Process
No rigmarole procedure, first come first serve basis. We just had to approach the registrar with our Curriculum-Vitae and recommendation letter from the university.
Duration of internship and timings
4 weeks, 6 days a week, 10-2.
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
First day was pretty amazing, the whole infrastructure was very classy and corporate. After the exhaustive district court, its relieving to see that courts in India can be that lavish as well.
The entire court of centralized air conditioned, the court rooms were huge and the you couldn’t take your eyes off the Judge’s desk.
There were no formalities as such. First day we were introduced to the Hon’ble Judge of the green court and the expert member, Justice Jyotimani sir and Arun Deshpandey sir, respectively and assigned tasks.
Main tasks
The main task was to observe court proceedings and go through the case files, along with that we were asked to have an intensive research on “Role of expert members in Green Tribunal”, and present the paper on the last day of our internship.
Work environment and people
The work environment at the National Green Tribunal is extremely formal yet relaxed.
People were friendly yet work oriented, which makes the whole experience professional and enjoyable at the same time.
Best things
Work ambiance and good internet connection.
The National Green Tribunal internship was memorable especially because of the cases, because it felt like all the cases were landmark judgments in the making.
I can never forget two things about the internship; firstly, we were taken out for a dinner by the Hon’ble Justice Jyotimani, which made it very special for us, and secondly, we met Medha Patkar ma’am, who came for one of the case hearings.
Bad things
The green court is all together new and the concept of internship is not well perceived by them, thus work has to be often asked for and there is no proper procedure or format for work allocation.
Stipend
None.
Biggest Lessons
The Judicial member were a great source of inspiration, he kept on asking our views on every issue and it was delightful to see him appreciate our perspectives.
It was nice to learn from him that however experienced or knowledgeable you are, its always good to be open to learning and being humble is a man’s biggest asset.
Mr. Manoj Tiwari, the Registrar of the court is a disciplined person, and he always made it a point that we do not forget that courts are the most punctual system of all times, and thus we do not miss even a single minute of experience.
Any Other Thing
Internship at the green court can have two absolute connotations:
One can be for the lazy souls, who can have at most fun at the internship and not get monitored for it and second for those who can learn a lot and actually march ahead to make a good fortune at the green court.
Its a place for never ending learning, and a place which is giving Indian Judiciary an all together different meaning.
