Name of the Intern
Anonymous
Name of the Organization
Phoenix Legal, New Delhi
Address of the Office
The office is situated at building no. 254 in Okhla Industrial Estate, Phase III, New Delhi.
Accommodation
I live in the NCR itself, and traveled by car every day. It’s a good idea to take a PG or rent a flat in the nearby areas of Kalkaji, Nehru Place, Lajpat Nagar, etc., which are well-connected to the office by metro.
Office Timings
The official timings are 9:30 am to 6:30 pm, but you may have to leave later depending on whether you have pending work.
Internship Experience
This was my first experience interning at a major firm, and it gave me a good taste of firm culture. I also learned a lot here, owing to the patience and helpfulness of the associates. The work ranges from corporate law, tax matters, to dispute resolution.
Interns are not allotted to any of the teams in particular and may receive work from any and all of them; this is both a boon for the inexperienced interns as they get to discover their preferences, and a possible hindrance, in the sense that you don’t get to exclusively work in your area of interest.
However, everything you do, even the clerical jobs, will teach you something and hone your skills in some way or the other.
I researched on a number of diverse matters, such as the new VAT laws in the GCC, and various provisions in the Limitation Act, Companies Act, Gratuity Act, Code of Criminal Procedure, Income Tax Act, and so on.
The best thing about the work culture here is that most of the associates treat the interns with respect and humility, and do not burden them with work when they’re already busy with something else.
The atmosphere is very positive and conducive to learning and growth.
Application Procedure
It’s a good idea to apply 2 months in advance, to internship.delhi@phoenixlegal.in. If you’re selected, you’ll receive a response within 3 weeks. If not, it’s a good idea to follow up.
Duration of Internship
I interned from 2nd to 29th January, 2018. I was given an internship till the 31st, but had to get it shortened because my classes at college were due to begin from the 29th.
The HR is pretty accommodating of minor changes in your allotted dates as long as you have a genuine cause for the request.
Stipend
There is a stipend as per the firm’s policy .
Any Other Thing
For the first couple of days, try to acclimatize yourself with the office, especially the names of most of the associates, partners, and your co-interns.
It’ll make you more confident and comfortable working with them. Try to use the ample commentaries available in the library so as to make your research more polished.
Work Atmosphere
The atmosphere as previously stated was quite intern-friendly and a healthy balance between work and play.
