About the Internship Programme
NALSA offers a unique internship programme where the interns are given a choice with regard to the district they want to intern in during the first 16 days of their internship.
After a 2 day break, they require you to report at the National legal services authority (NALSA) Office in New Delhi where you complete the rest of the internship.
Main tasks
This internship is great for 1st and 2nd-year students as it does not demand knowledge of procedural laws and is more of field work and visits full of new experiences.
While interning at your respective districts you will be required to study the working of the district legal service authority you are working in and interact with panel advocates.
They arrange for visits to Observation home, Central Jails, Old age homes which will bring you closer to the reality.
Work environment
The staff at my district was very cooperating and the internship was a combination of both learning and fun.
Since the DLSA i.e. district legal services authority’s office is situated in the district court complex, there were visits to courts of JMIC, ADJ’S etc which gave us an insight into the working of the other side of the bar.
The staff members at NALSA were very efficient in updating us about the visits and schedule, they were very accommodating, lenient and attendance was not an issue both at DLSA and NALSA.
Best things
The best thing was that we were given a chance to interact with Hon’ble Justice Shri Dipak Misra on our first day at Delhi.
While we spent the second half of our internship in Delhi we were offered refreshments and even lunch on a few days.
They had also arranged for a visit to the Parliament of India.
Bad things
There was nothing bad with this internship. However, the time period for the internship should have been more.
Stipend
No stipend.
Accommodation
Stayed at my relatives place in Delhi and while interning at my district at home.
Office Timings
10 am – 5 pm (timings varied on days when we had visits to far locations).
