How big was the office? Team strength?
TCL is a boutique firm, with one of its offices situated in South Extension Part II and headed by the Managing Partner and Founder Advocate Anupam Srivastava. It comprises a team of the Managing Partner and three associates.
The office is spacious and well-furnished, comprising of a reception, the Managing Partner’s chamber, work stations for the associates and interns and a conference room among other facilities.

I applied to the firm through email specifying the month during which I wanted to intern, along with my updated CV, and I received a confirmation mail in reply with my date of joining.

No. of days/week. Timings
Interns are expected to work Monday to Saturday.
The timings for Monday to Friday are from 10:30 am to 7:30 pm. Saturdays are from 11 am to 6 pm approximately as it is effectively a half day at the firm. Interns were also expected to attend court proceedings with respect to important matters, as instructed by our mentor.

First impression. First day, formalities etc.
There are no strict formalities to be adhered to. The associates were warm and welcoming. Since I personally knew one of the associates whom I used to refer to as “Di” as she was my senior in college, she introduced me to the associates and sir, and gave me the scoop on the practice areas of the firm and the duties usually expected of interns.
The dress code is to be strictly adhered to, both in office and Court.
Main tasks
My main tasks were usually research and drafting. I was given legal research mostly in contracts act, companies act and defamation laws, which included finding judgments on a point of law or interpreting sections from bare acts with the help of commentaries.
It was a very interactive procedure, as interns were free to consult the associates or sir in case of any doubts, and our viewpoints were always welcomed and taken into consideration.
I also assisted in drafting claim petitions, applications, notices and arguments/short-notes for oral pleadings in various matters, as well as documents such as Wills, Reply notices, Deeds, etc.
Work environment, people
An interesting aspect of this firm is that all most associates have only recently graduated. This helped me gain a profound understanding of the litigation challenges that a young graduate possibly faces when on the brink of starting their career, and how these associates overcame them under the excellent guidance of the Managing Partner of the firm.
The associates are decidedly approachable and treated me as one of their own, rather than as an intern. Work was not the only topic constantly discussed, and lunch times were always looked forward to for exchanging fun stories and getting to know everyone on a personal level.
Best things
Anupam Sir would often conduct enjoyable quizzes on a specific topic in law, where we would be questioned on the practical aspects of such law. The questions would always make me rack my brains, and proved to be an absolutely brilliant way to learn and improve my knowledge. Also, we would often be invited to share in evening treats indulged in by the associates.
Bad things
The office is located in the residential areas of South Extension Part II, so there is not much to explore in and around. However, this wasn’t much of a problem given that the work environment and associates in the office always kept us interns busy and entertained.
What did you do to chill? Co-interns, colleagues
We interns would sometimes take a walk outside as a short break, and even get snacks to munch on when working. The associates would constantly entertain us with jokes and stories.

Anything else you’d like to tell
Discipline is highly important. Also, contributing to the organization’s growth as a team results in immense personal growth as well, therefore the best work strategy to adopt would be team-work.
Biggest lessons
I have learnt how important it is to have a good work ethic, and to deliver high quality work that is not only precise but also on time. My drafting and research skills have improved radically, as well as my ability to think out-of-the-box. If you want to grasp the practical aspects of law with a unique hands-on approach and guidance, this is the firm to go to.
