Chambers of Advocate Shashi Bhushan Dixit, Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh
Application Process
I went to personally meet Mr. Shashi Bhushan Dixit and he was quite accommodating and agreed to let me intern even though he knew that working in hindi would be tough for me.
Duration of internship and timings
15th June, 2010 – 10th July, 2010
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
The first day I was required to go directly to the court and i was really nervous as this was my first internship and I had no idea about what I was supposed to be doing. But when I reached there, there were 2 associate lawyers and they made me feel quite at home and explained the workings of the court to me.
Main tasks
My job was primarily to observe the proceedings of the court and to make notes and some clerical work.
At the end of the internship I was required to submit a report of what I learnt.
Work environment and people
Sir was really helpful and was ready to answer any queries and so were the associates. It was a great learning experience.
Best things
This was my first internship so it helped that I started at a district court since I got to learn the basics. Also since I was the only intern at that time, I didn’t have the privilege of depending on someone else for helping me finish my work. This helped me stay focused and alert in case I missed out on anything.
Bad things
The work was mainly in hindi so it was a bit of a struggle in the beginning.
Stipend
There was no stipend.
Biggest Lessons
I learnt about the workings of the court since this was the first time I had been in one! This internship also made me realize how deplorable the condition of lower courts is in small districts and how we need to make people more aware about their legal rights.
