First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
We were asked to fill one form and submit the bonafide certificate and 2 passport size photographs.
We were shown library and dorm with T.V. and one can choose where to spend their time. I chose dorm.
Main tasks
Four type of tasks:
Field Work– It is not easy to get. They prefer sending foreign interns. I used some lobbying to get some. We visited a school run by RLEK. We showed “I Am Kalam” movie. The kids there can surprise you with intelligent questions which shows RLEK is doing good work with those students.
Research Work– We were told to make ppt on any law or social issue. They said you will have to present it in front of Mr. Avdhash Kausahl but sadly or luckily that never happened.
Party Work– They celebrate New Year so party was also one task. We were all assigned task. Some got to prepare invitation card while other prepared solo and group dance. We discussed and decided dress code. Believe me it was most important task there. It was alcoholic party so they asked in advance our preferences.
Voluntary Work– Since there was no work to do I chose to teach one girl. She was daughter of our cook in RLEK. That was only real work I did.
Work environment and people
RLEK is more homely than my own home. People there are very friendly. They will tell you all beautiful places nearby to visit.
Best things
The location of RLEK is good for travelling to nearby places like Mussorie and Rishikesh. If one gets field work then it is best. For people who drink free drinks on New Year.
Bad things
No quality work given mostly clerical in nature.
Stipend
No stipend.
Biggest Lessons
1. Most people intern in N.G.O.s so as to put something on C.V. for admission abroad.
2. There is no drinking age in reality.
3. N.G.O.s are doing good work and that is why some people leave Luthra & Luthra office to work there.
