The Presidential Conference on the Integrity of Creation: Climate Change will be organised on September 20-October 2, 2015 at Pittsburgh by Duquesne University.
This interdisciplinary, academic conference will occur each year to provide a scholarly forum for exploring a topic related to the general theme of the Integrity of Creation. The topic of this year’s inaugural conference is climate change.
About the Conference
The conference, commissioned by Duquesne President Dr. Charles J. Dougherty, is an endowed academic event that celebrates the Spiritan mission of Duquesne University.
The conference is interdisciplinary in the sense that presenters and participants from different disciplines are invited to engage each other in civil discourse on the conference topic.
The interdisciplinary committee of University faculty that plans the conference has chosen climate change as the inaugural topic.
Climate change will be discussed as a substantive and worrying change of patterns in the weather and related phenomena over recent decades which negatively impact the entire planet.
This academic conference explores the implications of climate change from a variety of scholarly perspectives to consider ways to improve our planet’s future – safeguarding the Integrity of Creation around us.
The conference has three goals:
a. To provide a scholarly opportunity to engage established and emerging research on the conference topic
b. To foster interdisciplinary discourse on each topic, such as among science, health, philosophy, religion and policy
c. To enlighten public awareness and discussion of the conference topic.
Call for Papers
We invite interdisciplinary contributions that engage the topic of climate change in the form of papers or posters.
Abstract
Abstract Guidelines:
a. The abstract narrative should be 300 words maximum, formatted with one-inch margins and 12-pt Times New Roman typeface, double-spaced.
b. 1st Line: the name and credentials of the presenters
c. 2nd Line: the name of the presenter’s institution, city, state
d. 3rd Line: the title of the Paper or Poster
e. The abstract should address four items: 1) Purpose, 2) Context/Background, 3) Method/Process and 4) Outcomes.
Registration
There is no registration fee for the Conference. However, if a Paper or Poster is accepted the presenter must register for the conference.
Timeline
a. Friday May 15, 2015: deadline to submit Abstract for Papers/Posters
b. Friday May 22, 2015: notification of decisions of the Review Committee
c. Friday May 29, 2015: confirmation from the presenters to participate.
Registration
Registration is free but required.
a. Registration gives access to the conference lectures, discussions and conference receptions.
b. A box lunch may be reserved (payment required on the day).
c. Paper / Poster presenters must also register for the conference.
