CSJ is calling for applications from qualified Indian advocates for a two-year Fellowship program. CSJ’s Fellowship Program is a two-year program that serves as an apprenticeship for young professionals.
The program develops young advocates into leaders who have refined and practical professional skills, high standards of personal and professional ethics and a heart to serve the poor and disadvantaged.
Fellows will directly represent clients of sexual violence throughout criminal proceedings, advocating for their best interests starting at the police station till judgment.
The position is based in Delhi, India and requires little if any travel outside the area.
Besides the practical experience of handling cases of sexual violence, Fellows receive training in:

Professional skills development
Substantive, procedural and evidentiary law on crimes of sexual violence
Physical, emotional and psychological impact of rape
Negotiation and persuasion
Client interviewing
Witness preparation
Legal research and writing
Direct and cross-examination
Case management
Requirements
Bachelor of Laws degree required, Master of Laws preferred
Registered with the Bar Council of India
Demonstrated commitment to the poor and vulnerable sections of society
Excellent comprehension of written and spoken English and Hindi
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to work in challenging, sometimes hostile, environments
Uncompromising insistence on truth, integrity and excellence in work
Persistent, bold, yet diplomatic, when standing up for client interests
Willingness to learn and stretch oneself beyond comfort levels
Willingness to respond to sexual violence cases at the police station at all times, including late night
Duration of Fellowship: Two years
Honorarium: During the first year, Fellows will receive an honorarium of Rs. 30,000 per month. During the second year, the honorarium may increase based on merit.
