ABOUT DAKSH
Daksh is a non-profit organization dedicated to the improvement of democratic governance in India.
This competition on Legislative Drafting is aimed at enhancing the understanding, application and interpretation of the law by students, by laying emphasis on the aspect of problem-solving as well as constitutional coherence.
Through this competition, Daksh seeks to encourage students to engage efficiently with obstacles to good governance and to cultivate a more participative approach to political processes and democracy.
LEGISLATIVE DRAFTING CHALLENGE
It is with great pleasure that we announce the Second Legislation Drafting Competition, 2014.
The success of last years’ competition prompted us to look toward making this Competition an annual event.
The participants last year, ranging from High School students to law undergraduates showed us the vast potential of this generation to understand various aspects of the law.
This year, we are introducing a second round to the Competition. The top 5 (five) teams, based on scores,shall each appear before a panel consisting of judges and the remaining 4 (four) teams, in a Parliamentary set-up to defend their draft Bill and submit to questions.
The team offering the best defense shall be awarded additional prize money, to be announced at the Valedictory Ceremony.
THEMES
o Use and Regulation of Electronic Surveillance in India
OR
o Use of Scientific Methods (i.e. Narco-Analysis, Brain Mapping) for collection of Evidence in criminal trials.
OR
o Prevention of Lavish Marriages in India
IMPORTANT DATES FOR THE COMPETITION ARE AS FOLLOWS:
September 1, 2014: Release of Topics
September 20, 2014: Last date for Registration via e-mail to drafting@dakshindia.org.
(E-mail to specify members names and place of study.
October 15, 2014: Last date for enquiries. All enquiries to be sent to drafting@dakshindia.org.
October 30, 2014: Release of responses to all queries/ clarifications.
January 5, 2015: Last date for submission of soft copies of the draft legislations (in .pdf format)
January 10, 2015: Last date for submission of hard copies of the draft legislations
January 25, 2015: Release of results
To be communicated at the time of release of results : Defense of draft legislation and Valedictory Ceremony
