About the Organisation
Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai is a National Law University located at Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It is the 18th National Law University established in India by The Maharashtra National Law University Act 2014, passed by Maharashtra Legislature under the Maharashtra Act No VI of 2014.
The Centre for Maritime Law and Research is established by the MNLU Mumbai and the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India. It was inaugurated on 29th July 2018 by Hon’ble Justice K.R. Shriram, Judge, Bombay High Court, who is the Chairman of the Advisory Board. The Centre is a think-tank for the country on the many facets of maritime law.
The Directorate General of Shipping, India deals with the implementation of shipping policy and legislation so as to ensure the safety of life and ships at sea, prevention of marine pollution, promotion of maritime education and training in coordination with the International Maritime Organization.
The National Maritime Foundation (NMF), New Delhi is an autonomous think tank was established in 2005 as the nation’s first maritime think-tank for conducting independent and policy-relevant research on ‘matters maritime’. Its intellectual and organisational development is supported by the Ministry of Defense and the Indian Navy.
The Stockton Center for the Study of International Law is a research center that brings together the academic, governmental and non-governmental communities to focus on cutting edge legal research at the intersection of military strategy, policy, operations and international law.
