About the organisation
Law League is an initiative of the students of Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai.
Law League seeks to remove the ‘law school handicap’ by allowing an equal and even playing field to students across the country by encouraging their participation in their collaborative events and research projects
Law League is starting its own non-profit social initiative and shall be conducting research projects focusing on different social issues existing in India.
About Pragyaan
“Pragyaan” is a social initiative undertaken by Law League India. Law League India is motivated to encourage students to undertake research on existing lacunas in society. It is our belief that any potential change in society can be triggered by the actions of law students and legal personnel.
This vision of pooling together public-spirited individuals is manifested in the form of ‘Pragyaan’ under which we shall be addressing various social issues that affect our country.
Type of internship
In the first project under ‘Pragyaan’, Law League will focus on the problem and mass level deficiencies of sanitation and water pollution in the vicinity of Chandigarh, the Capital of Punjab and Haryana, home to several eminent bureaucrats and political leaders.
The project shall undertake an empirical study and analytical of the substandard conditions of sewage disposal and treatment in Chandigarh, attempting to formulate several problem-solving mechanisms.
The project shall be conducted by seven student volunteers under the guidance of Ms. Saumya Uma (Assistant Professor, School of Law, Governance and Citizenship, Ambedkar University, Delhi University) and Mr. Rahul Sapkal (Assistant Professor, Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai).
The students shall be given the experience of empirical research and exposure to practical working patterns of government offices and Court.
Individuals with an inclination towards social and environmental justice shall find in this initiative a great platform to explore their interests. The project is already in the stage of field visits and we are looking for students who are interested in empirical research and fieldwork.

Who can apply?
Volunteers/Interns are required to possess the following:
- Interest in fieldwork and Prior empirical research experience
- Legal and academic writing skills
- Legal research expertise
- Communication and advocacy skills
- Leadership skills
- History showcasing the moral force of character and interest in fellow beings.
Note: Students/professionals/academicians/Research Scholars from Chandigarh will be preferred. However, it is not a bar and individuals from all over the country are invited to take part in this project.
Application Procedure
Student volunteers shall be selected on the basis of their CV (relevant to the project) and statement of purpose sent to info[at]lawleague.in
The statement of purpose must be concise, limited to 250-300 words. The deadline for submission of applications is 15 August 2019.
