Punjab University’s Department of Laws Chairman Prof. Paramjit S. Jaswal has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Hidayatullah National University of Law (HNLU), Raipur for a term of five years. He would be replacing Dr. Anand Pawar.
Professor Jaswal, a former Director of UILS, has had a long teaching career. His profile on the Punjab University website lists Constitutional Law, Administrative law, Human Rights, Environmental Law and Service Law among his areas of interests.
On August 6th 2010, the outgoing VC had constituted a Search Committee to submit three suitable names for the post. The Search Committee was headed by Hon’ble Justice V. K. Agrawal (Retd.) and had Hon’ble Justice S. C. Vyas (Retd.) and Prof. M. P. Singh (Vice Chancellor of NUJS, Kolkata) as members of the committee.

an excellent academician…and a wonderful teacher… his command on constitutional law is amazing..his book on environment law has been cited by the Supreme Court.
He has been my teacher for a year, is currently my head of department and is a classmate of my father.
