About
The course will analyze the historical interplay between major features of the business corporation: legal personality, transferability of interests, limitation of liability and hierarchical structure of control. It will also study the history and aftermath of alternative forms of business association: The partnership, the limited partnership, the trust, the unincorporated company and the limited liability company.
This course will deal with these questions by employing historical, legal and economic methodological tools. It will examine formative periods in the history of the business corporation from the commercial and industrial revolutions to the rise of big business and the reactions to it.
It will deal geographically mainly with Britain and the US, shifting the focus from the first to the second past the middle of 19th century, as the US took the lead from Britain in the shaping of the institution. It will examine comparatively the organization of business in pre-modem Asia, in civil law countries, in the British Empire and in economies with concentrated ownership and with control pyramids.

- You are a lawyer with an interest in commercial laws.
- You are a faculty from an academic institution interested in researching or teaching Company law
- You are a Law School student having completed a course in basic company law course
- You are Graduate student in history, economics, finance or business.
Fee
The participation fees for taking the course is Rs. 5,000/- [Rupees Five Thousand only].
The fee include all instructional materials, computer use for tutorials and assignments, laboratory equipment usage charges, 24 hr free internet facility.
Accommodation will be provided on payment basis. Participants needing accommodation must inform organizers at the time of registration.
